Adressing Mythic Rarity

For quite some time there are a lot of people nagging about the price of some mythics.
And I’m one of them.
Paying 50 to 80 dollars for a card is almost prohibitive for me, and when the decks I would like to play have 4-10 cards of this type this is even worse. To top it all this can not be addressed by any other way than buying them or been lucky on a draft.
But drafting for this kind of cards is not worth it, because if you aren’t able to hit them you will most likely lose money.
Let’s make a little research:
ROE
Mythic
5- under 10 dollars
7- 10-20
2- 20+
Rares
All under – 10 dollars
ZEN
Mythic
2 – 10+
All under 10
Rares
5 – 10-15 dollars (fetchs)
All under -10 dollars
Worldwake
Mythic
1 – 10+
1 – 20+
All under 10
Rare
All under 10
The only collection that is worth drafting is Zendikar, since they have 5 rares and 2 mythics that will return the cash that you invested on the draft but you will never make a big profit out of it. The only reason Zendikar as +10 dollars rares is because there is no chase Mythic on it or fetchs would easily drop under 10 dollars.
Worldwake doesn’t have any rare over 10 dollars even though they have the manlands that most standard decks play, and this is only because of Jace the Mindsculptor, this set it’s one of the worst for drafting as there are only 2 cards over 10 dollars and both of them are Mythic.
Roe only has Mythics that will pay you out, all it’s rares are under 10, and this collection has been out for only some weeks, in a month or so I doubt there will be rares over 5 dollars.
This is also having a big impact on trading cards for cards. With all rares under 10 dollars, trading them for a chase Mythic is almost impossible. No one will want to trade a JMS, Elspeth, Gideon for a bunch of 5-7 dollar rares they will always ask for money or for another chase Mythic.
Since drafting sets where there is chase Mythics don’t payout to most players, the secondary market becomes a lot more appellative to the players that are looking to build their decks. With 10 dollars you can most likely buy 2 or more rares for your deck and is also better to save this money and eventually buy the Mythics you need.
For me the biggest impact of Mythic rares it’s not on Standard but in drafts. Drafting now is pretty underwhelming compared to other blocks like Ravnica, Lorwin where you could easily hit 3-7 cards over 10 dollars. Now this is basically impossible and draft for me is only a necessity because I want to do some games to playtest for nationals.
This will keep happening and the only sets that I will like to draft will be the ones where Mythics are all under 10 dollars.
And by the way I’m a European player and usually I pay 12 Euros for a draft which is even worst.
Cumps, Anglachel
